The first USA restaurant opened by Nando’s in Washington, DC, in 2008. Then, they expanded their outlets in the Chicago metropolitan area, as the first restaurant opened on 20 May 2015 in the metro area.

As of 2025, there are 45 restaurant outlets in the U.S and 3 to 4 are Hatching soon.

Nando’s USA Locations: Why DC Was Chosen?

The first Nando’s USA Location was, D.C.’s Chinatown, and they opened the first restaurant in 2008. As we know, DC is one of the best foodie cities in the US. 

Lots of great places in the city and if you go out a little to Virginia or Silver Spring lots of great ethnic food too. It just isn’t as much in the city centre. It is an international food spot.

John Fisher, Nando’s North America CEO, said;

“We picked D.C. because of the international mix here, and the exposure that residents have to International flavors and foods. It was a great place for us to land”

The original Nando’s in D.C.’s Chinatown recently closed after 15 years. The new Nando’s, at 836 F Street Northwest, is in a space previously occupied by the International Spy Museum, across from the National Portrait Gallery and about a block from Capital One Arena.
